Jazz upgrades 1,000 sites to 5G, targets upto 2,500 by year-end

Jazz has become the first mobile operator in Pakistan to upgrade 1,000 sites to 5G, marking a major milestone in the country’s 5G rollout, with the operator targeting 2,500 live 5G sites by the end of 2026.

According to a presentation shared by Jazz, the operator has expanded its 5G footprint to 1,000 live sites, compared with around 180 sites at the launch of its 5G services.

Jazz said its 5G network currently covers 10 cities, including major urban centres and metros, as part of a broader network modernisation programme.

The operator has also significantly strengthened its spectrum position following the latest spectrum auction, adding 190 MHz to its holdings. With the additional spectrum, Jazz’s total spectrum holdings have increased from 94.4 MHz to 284.4 MHz, nearly tripling its previous spectrum capacity.

The newly acquired spectrum includes 20 MHz in the 700 MHz band, 50 MHz in the 2300 MHz band, 70 MHz in the 2600 MHz band and 50 MHz in the 3500 MHz band.

Jazz said the spectrum portfolio will support both the expansion of 5G services and additional 4G capacity, enabling the operator to increase network capacity and coverage simultaneously.

The operator’s latest rollout comes amid an accelerated transition towards 5G services following Pakistan’s spectrum auction held earlier this year. Jazz plans to continue expanding its 5G footprint, with the number of live 5G sites targeted to reach 2,500 by the end of the current year.
