KP’s DASTAK App Secures Pakistan’s First APICTA Victory in 14 Years

DASTAK App secures Pakistan’s first APICTA Digital Government award in 14 years, setting a new benchmark for citizen services.

Pakistan has secured a major milestone in digital governance as DASTAK, the Public Service Delivery Platform of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), won the Winner Award at the APICTA ICT Awards 2025, outperforming leading innovations from 13 regional economies, including Chinese Taipei, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Australia.

The award represents a historic breakthrough for Pakistan, marking the country’s first victory in the Digital Government & Citizen Services category in 14 years. Since the Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA) Awards were established in 2001, this category has been dominated by digitally advanced governments with mature e-governance infrastructures. DASTAK’s win signals not only Pakistan’s progress but also KP’s emergence as a competitive force in public-sector digital transformation.

APICTA follows a stringent, multi-jury evaluation model involving global ICT professionals, technologists, and governance experts. Digital government solutions are assessed on how effectively they address governance challenges, adopt advanced technologies such as AI and automation, improve citizen experience through time savings and reduced corruption, and demonstrate scalability, accountability, security, and institutional resilience.

DASTAK excelled across all these parameters, presenting a citizen-centric model that aligns technology with practical governance needs. The platform streamlines access to public services, including household registration, domicile processing, tenant verification, and various administrative services delivered directly at citizens’ doorsteps. Its design reduces human interaction points, cuts down bureaucratic delays, and diminishes opportunities for corruption, a core requirement in today’s service delivery frameworks.

The APICTA Awards, often regarded as the “Oscars of ICT”, are among the most prestigious recognitions in the Asia-Pacific region. Participating projects undergo multiple stages of scrutiny by global experts, making it exceptionally challenging for any solution to emerge as a winner. This recognition positions DASTAK among the top-tier digital government innovations in the entire region, a testament to its scalability, impact, and transformative potential.

Beyond the award, the recognition serves as a symbolic win for Pakistan’s digital future. It demonstrates that innovation within provincial governments is not only possible but also capable of reaching global benchmarks. For Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which has spent the past decade strengthening its digital ecosystem through reforms, e-governance initiatives, and citizen-service innovations, the win signifies validation of its long-term strategy.
