Leaked Specs of Kirin 980

The launch of Kirin 980 is getting closer but before it’s launch the specs have been leaked via Chinese sources. Huawei’s next-gen Kirin 980 processor is expected to be launched on August 30 at IFA. The company introduced the Kirin 970 last year at IFA and now it seems that the next flagship chipset will also be unveiled in Berlin.

The Chinese sources have reported that the maximum clock speed will be 2.8 GHz for the top four Cortex-A77 cores and there will be four more Cortex-A55 for reliability.

This upcoming chipset Kirin 980 will be built on the 7nm FinFET process by TSMC. Previous rumors have also claimed that it will adopt latest AI chip technology by Cambricorn. It is to be expected that it will make the NPU smoother and will bring up to 5 trillion calculations per watt.

The Huawei subsidiary is going to design the chipset. It is to be expected that it will be 1.5 times faster than the Adreno 630 that is currently paired with Snapdragon 845 by Qualcomm.

According to the leaks, the first phones to arrive with the Kirin 980 migt be Huawei Mate 20 and Huawei Mate 20 Pro. Huawei has recently launched the Kirin 710 SoC as a successor for the Kirin 659. The Huawei Nova 3i is the first smartphone from the company to feature the new 10nm mid-range SoC.
