LESCO to Automate Electricity Meters with a SIM Card Very Soon

With the launch of 3G/4G services in Pakistan different sectors like education, agriculture, health etc started taking advantage of this fastest technology in many ways. One sector that is found slow but still never too late in utilizing MBB services in Electricity-WAPDA. In this regard, LESCO has came forwarded and worked on a project that will automate the electricity meters with SIM cards. LESCO to Automate Electricity Meters with a SIM Card Very Soon. For this purpose, LESCO has been working with Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Initially, LESCO will install around 1.8 million advanced meters in the country as test basis within 4 years; for which Rs. 30 million amount will be provided by the ADB as loan.

Of course, in this project mobile operators will also be taken on board for connecting SIMs with the electric meters.

With this meter system, the electricity bills will be automated as the bill readings will be sent to the server that will generate bills for the citizens.
