MediaTek to Launch Three Dimensity 9600 Chips with Apple-style Naming

MediaTek is reportedly preparing a new flagship processor lineup that could include three different chips of its upcoming Dimensity 9600 chipset. According to a new leak from China, the company is expected to introduce the Dimensity 9600s, Dimensity 9600 Pro, and Dimensity 9600 Pro Max later this year.
The report suggests that MediaTek is adopting a naming strategy similar to Apple’s product lineup by offering multiple premium variants instead of a single flagship chip. This approach would also be similar to Qualcomm’s rumored plans for its next-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 series.

The Dimensity 9600s will be the entry-level model in the new lineup. According to the leak, it will be an upgraded version of last year’s Dimensity 9500 rather than a completely new design. The chipset will continue using TSMC’s 3nm manufacturing process while offering small performance and efficiency improvements over its predecessor.
The other two models, the Dimensity 9600 Pro and Dimensity 9600 Pro Max, will bring bigger upgrades. Both chips are rumored to be built using TSMC’s advanced 2nm process, which could deliver better performance and improved power efficiency compared to the 3nm version.
While both flagship variants will reportedly use the same 2nm manufacturing technology, they will feature different CPU configurations. This means the Pro Max model could offer higher processing power than the standard Pro version, giving smartphone makers more options for premium devices.
The leak also claims that the Dimensity 9600s will not be able to compete directly with Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 because it will continue to use the older 3nm process. Instead, the Dimensity 9600 Pro will rival the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, while the Pro Max version could compete with the rumored Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro.

If the report is accurate, MediaTek’s new strategy could allow smartphone manufacturers to choose different performance levels depending on the type of flagship device they are developing.
The first smartphones with the new Dimensity 9600 series will arrive as early as September. The leak points to the upcoming vivo X500 series and Oppo Find X10 family as the first devices likely to feature the new processors.
MediaTek has not officially confirmed the new chipset lineup or its specifications. Take these details as rumours until we get an official announcement. However, if the reports prove accurate, the Dimensity 9600 family could become one of the company’s most ambitious flagship chip launches in recent years.
