Cyber crime is the new version of doing crime which includes stealing millions of rupees from online bank to harassing and excessive stalking of cyber users. This crime has became the threat to the international security. Many regions are the target of this crime but experts has warned Middle East as the hotbed for cyber crime. This region is already well known for civil unrest, terrorism and monarchic regime. The traditional rivalry between Iran and Saudi Arabia has pumped the crime against each other.
Middle East becomes Exemplar for Pakistan to Upgrade the Cyber Security
Unfortunately, most of the countries in the Middle East have not managed to build their cyber security. Cyber-attack is a threat to even the nation’s sovereignty most of the leaders, businessmen and the government have yet to fully grasp the idea of how to deal with this new phenomenon. Anyhow the summit Gulf Information Security Expo & Conference (GISEC) has indicated some measures to deal with the attack.
Since Pakistan has closed and traditional ties with the Middle East so the country is also getting alarmed situation regarding cyber crime. Pakistan has already faced many cyber-attacks in a recent past. Many of these usually occurred to high-profile events such as the Defense Day or the cricket matches. For example, an Indian hacker group, Black Hats, took responsibility for the January 7 cyber-attack done by them in Pakistan.
For this purpose cyber crime policies were brought in the form of Cyber crime Bill in 2015. This development came because of recommendations made by the information technology ministry. Parliamentarians were suggesting the ministry to make precautionary measures. Recently the bill has faced severe criticism. Many IT experts and social media users find the new law very harsh.
It is understandable that government has taken lessons from the Middle East claiming that the reactionary approach seems not be the ideal solution. The reactionary approach can be replaced by proactive approach, where small measure and policies are placed to strengthen the security of Pakistan.
