Mobile Imports Drop by 29% During First Month of FY 2016-17

Mobile phone imports in Pakistan have recorded a drop of more than 29 percent in the first month of ongoing fiscal year 2016-17.

Overall imports of mobile phone mounted at $46,201 in July against $65,974 in June. Though, it amplified by 1.84 percent as compared to $45,368 during same period of preceding year i.e. July 2015.

According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), whole telecom imports witnessed decline of 31.54 percent during July 2016 as compared to last month of June 2016. Entire imports were documented at $74,261 during July 2016 as compared to $108,628 in June 2016. Whereas registered 5.13 percent decline as compared to $78,277 during July 2015.

Other telecom gadget import also observed noteworthy debility of 34 percent during the first month of ongoing financial year. As it stood at $28,060 during July 2016 against $42,654 in June 2016. When compared to the forgoing year, other telecom device imports showed 14.73 percent decline, as it was $32,909 in July 2015.

According to experts, telecom sector has become inundated relating to structure speculation and other apparatus. The deterioration in overall telecom import was hence justifiable. Though, in next two years, smartphones are projected to cross 55 percent of mobile phone imports.
