During World War I, the German army used field telephone to stay in contact with its military officials. This use proved very significant during the course of WWI and stressed the alternative functions of mobile phone. In 1989, Motorola introduced the Micro T-AC personal telephone; its antennas could be pulled open to use it as a telephone and the flip-down was used as the mobile phone. After this in 1997, Philips Consumer Communications introduced the new digital smart phone “Sayngry”, which had additional specifications including mobile e-mail, Internet and wireless fax etc. Danger Hip Top was another smartphone introduced in 2002 with e-mail, SMS features, but this time the “Personal Assistance” apps e.g. digital cameras and video games were also introduced. Among vast list of functions performed by mobile phone, nowadays people use it for variety of purposes. Also due to the dramatic change in terms of technology: the internet, satellite stations, and the social networks people have become more aware about their rights and civil liberties. One of the best roles played by mobile and social media was during the 2010 wave of “Arab Uprisings”. As the protestors of these uprisings were majorly young people hence they used social media like Facebook, twitter and YouTube to organize, communicate and raise political awareness among the protestors. Protestors across the country used to announce the venue and timings for their protest on social media websites, making it easier to come and join their cause. Instead of AK-147 their revolution tool was social media, this is the reason why the alternative name for this uprising became “Facebook Revolution”. The use of mobile phone on political forums has made it clear that now everything is possible through this tiny device. People have now full freedom of expression as they can tweet and discuss everything through social media.

But along the improvement in the communication process, many other doors to development will also open. Smartphones along with 3G/4G technology will have a profound effect on the socio-economic state of the country by improving education, health, security and agriculture sectors while creating employment opportunities as well so we should stay positive and look forward to that.
