Mobile Phone Services Suspended in All Major Cities of Pakistan

Mobile phone services are suspended in all the major cities of Pakistan-Islamabad, Gujranwala and Lahore.

As per details, the mobile and internet services have been suspended in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore and Gujranwala due to the security concerns as the protests being held across the country by TLP against the acquittal of Asia Bibi.

Mobile Phone Suspended in Twin Cities

The Supreme Court on Wednesday acquitted Bibi of blasphemy charges, following which a petition was filed in the SC’s Lahore registry for a review of the court’s verdict.

Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry also announced yesterday that Mobile phone services will remain suspended in Islamabad and other major cities of Punjab today (Friday) from 08:00 am till 06:00 pm.

This is not the first time mobile phone services are suspended in Pakistan. Previously a mutual petition has been filed in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) against the recurrent suspension of mobile services in the federal capital. The Islamabad High Court had announced that the suspension of mobile phone services due to security is against the law. This decision is taken as a result of petitions that challenged the government on the decision of shutting down cellular services in the capital of Pakistan, Islamabad for security concerns.
