Design and Display of Meizu M5:

Meizu M5 features a 5.2 inches IPS LCD screen and comes with the dimensions of 147.3 x 72.8 x 8.2 mm with 69.5% approx. screen to body ratio. Whereas the device weighs around 138 grams- a very light weight device comparatively.

Talking about the front design of Meizu M5, we have of course an ear piece in the center. To the left side, there’s a front camera and that’s it.

The front side is all covered with black layers on all four edges. Whereas the fingerprint sensor also the home button is down there on the bottom. This censor is just like any iPhone, it can detect your fingerprint as well as you can press it for further functionalities. The only difference is that the home button is a rectangular in shape with curved edges. Whereas iPhone has a simple home button in the shape of a circle.

On the right edge, the device has a volume and power buttons whereas it does not have any button or connectivity option on the left edge. Since the device does not have a removable back so the Sim and SD card port are available outside the phone on the left edge. M5 is a dual Sim phone but the only thing is that if you choose to use dual Sim then you would have to give away the SD card port for the second Sim. This is because the phone only has two ports, and if you choose to use one Sim at a time, you can use the other port for SD card.

The upper edge only has nothing on its part whereas the lower edge has an audio jack, a mic along with USB port and speakers are also present there. We feel that there is a lot of traffic on the lower edge and the upper side could have been utilized for some port at least.

Meizu M5’s back cover is created using high-temperature processing for a consistent rear finish. The back side of the phone is non removable with a shiny golden texture.

Moreover, we have the 13 MP back camera on the top center of the phone whereas the LED flash light just below the camera. This is the overall look of the phone which we personally feel could have been enhanced even more.

Memory for Meizu M5:

As far as the memory is concerned, Meizu M5 comes with a 16 GB ROM and a 2 GB RAM. This is somehow less than expected, as they could have done better with the memory so you could save pictures and videos as many as you want.

However, excessive storage of data will exhaust the space up. For that, the expandable memory option is there. So if you are a person who loves downloading videos or playing games you can take advantage from the expandable memory i.e. up to 256 GB with the help of the SD card.

Back Camera:

With all other features, Meizu M5 gives us a 13 MP back camera. This 13 MP camera also features a LED flash light. The camera is however satisfactory and not too great. We experienced some pixels breakage when capturing pictures.

It can record videos in full HD 1080p quality. Additionally, the camera comes with some built in modes like Geo-tagging, touch focus and face detection etc.

Front Camera:

In order to help you capture selfies, the front camera of Meizu M5 comes with 5 MP result. You can take satisfactory pictures in low as well as in high light.

This 5 MP camera is relatively less and does not give a very good result. The final result of the pictures does not have very good pixel quality and therefore less satisfactory.

Connectivity of Meizu M5:

Meizu M5 is a 3G/4G supportive device so you can enjoy a faster internet speed. It also has other connectivity options like GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and USB.

The Wi-Fi works for a/b/g/n whereas the Bluetooth version is 4.0. It supports dual Sim but if you opt for dual Sim connection, you cannot use the SD card. You can only use your SD card that is expandable up to 256 GB, if you have one Sim working. This is because there are only 2 ports available.

Battery Performance of Meizu M5:

M5 is equipped with a large 3070mAh battery for the best possible battery life. Additionally, the improved battery optimization features in the Flyme operating system that makes sure that the battery lasts even longer.

The charger is of 2A which means it can charge your phone in 1.5 hours and give you a straight stand-by time of 8-9 hours easily. Moreover, this strong battery can give you a 5 hours of photography, 9 hours of gaming, 37 hours of talk time and 66 hours of music playback.

Interface of Meizu M5:

Meizu M5 has a 5 inch HD IPS Touchscreen and runs the latest android version 6.0 marshmallow. The colors have been managed in a great way since they are all bright and therefore icons are clearly visible. Brightness, at the same time can also be managed easily. You can access the brightness adjustment level bar from the drop down menu.

Starting from the lock screen, no wallpapers are set by default. The lock screen is opened when we swipe up the screen and we are directed towards the home screen.

Home screen is managed in a satisfactory way because there is a lot of traffic of icons as soon as you swipe up the screen. On the home screen, we have access to all apps, settings, contacts, phone dial and messages etc.

When swiped towards downward, we also get to see quick setting options. Where you can access Wi-Fi settings, flashlight, and turn on/off airplane mode, Bluetooth, mobile date settings, hotspot, and auto rotate option and a few more. Moreover, all your recent/ unchecked notifications are also there. However, on the very top, the settings option opens up more advanced setting.

Processor of Meizu M5:

Meizu M5 has a 1.5 GHz Octa-core processor and contains a chipset of MediaTek MT6750. This chipset is based on the architecture of ARM Cortex-A53.

Furthermore, it has a 2 GB RAM which might make it a little hard to perform multitasking. While doing so, the phone might get stuck.

Antutu Benchmarking of Meizu M5:

Antutu comprehensively tests all aspects of a device, including UX, GPU, RAM, CPU, I/O and more. Each item is individually assessed and given a score. Therefore, we ran a test in Meizu M5 and got to the results where the device scored 40279 points. On its multi-touch test, the device scored 5 points.

Vellamo Benchmarking of Meizu M5:

In our Vellamo Benchmarking, where three tests were carried out, the device scored 2004 points in multicore test, 983 in metal test and 2870 in chrome browser test.

Conclusion:

In my opinion Meizu M5 is just another smartphone with the same features and specifications. There is nothing really outstanding about this phone which we think will make this phone a successful one in the market. Especially the fact that there are already a lot of smartphones out there which will give it a tough competition since Meizu is totally a new company in Pakistani market. There was a severe need of some new and unique features to be brought up by Meizu.
