Mobilink wins the Ethical Corporate Award 2014 for mLiteracy Program

Mobilink, in a joint entry with VimpelCom has won the Ethical Corporation Award 2014 in the category of “Most Effective International Community Investment” for its m-Literacy Program. The awards were organized by internationally renowned Ethical Corporation that serves CSR, compliance, risk and governance communities with topical and insightful business intelligence and moderates forums to exchange best practices. The award was received by Chris Burgess, Director Corporate Responsibility VimpelCom in a ceremony recently held in London. An independent panel of judges declared m-literacy program as the winner after carefully reviewing projects for demonstrated commitment, executional excellence, and project impact over a period of 2 years into community investment.

Mobilink’s m-Literacy program aims at providing mobile phone-based literacy platform to help teachers disseminate a carefully structured basic literacy curriculum via SMS to beneficiaries from rural areas across Pakistan. The program was piloted in 2009 with 250 beneficiaries from rural Punjab. The project currently reaches out to beneficiaries across rural Punjab, KPK and Federally Administered Tribal Area (FATA). It targets more than 6000 beneficiaries from rural areas who are assessed for progress through UNESCO as implementation partner and local NGOs. Mobilink’s m-Literacy program has also won the Global Mobile Award 2013 for the “Best Mobilink Education or Learning Product or Service”.
