NA Approves Council for Science and Technology Bill. This bill was passed on November,21,2016. Pakistan council for science and technology bill 2016, was unanimously passed for constitution of Pakistan council for science and technology (PCST).

NA Approves Council for Science and Technology Bill

The 25-clause bill was moved to the House by Minister of Law and Justice Zahid Hamid. While briefing the House about this bill, minister said that PCST have rights to policy making, planning, and implementation and carrying out policy studies.

He said:

This organization will provide a forum for coordination to science and technology with national and international agencies and identification of priority subjects with reference to their bearing on socio-economic development and national security

He added:

Pakistan Council for Science and Technology is involved in policy making, planning, and implementation and carrying out policy studies

The main objectives of Pakistan Council for Science & Technology (PCST) are to advertise the government on S&T policy and plans. They are also bound to collect science and technology statistics and maintain a data bank of the research and development institutions of the country.

They will discuss all policy matters, proposals and issues on the overall development of science and technology in the country and provide recommendations and advice to the National Commission for Science and Technology for facilitating their decision-making.

It was also made knowledgeable to the House that PCST was established through a resolution and is instructed to advise the government on development of science and technology at national level.

This step will surely lead to advance technology setup in Pakistan. The forum will provide a platform to coordinate with international agencies regarding science and technology. As a result Pakistan would be recognised as technology power with reference to their understanding on socio-economic power and national security.
