NCCIA Arrested Woman in Lahore for Allegedly Creating Fake WhatsApp Accounts

The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has arrested a woman in connection with the alleged creation of fake WhatsApp accounts and the illegal sale of activated mobile SIM cards. The action was taken after a complaint was filed by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), highlighting concerns over the misuse of digital identities.

According to officials, the suspect, identified as Safia Afzal from Sahiwal, was involved in obtaining activated SIM cards through illegal methods. Investigators claim that these SIM cards were then used to create fake WhatsApp accounts, which were later sold to different individuals. Authorities believe the operation was part of a larger network involved in illegal digital activities.

NCCIA Investigation Officer Umme Salma said the suspect was not working alone. According to the investigation, she was allegedly part of an organized network that helped facilitate the misuse of digital identities. During the raid, the NCCIA recovered 310 active SIM cards belonging to different mobile service providers, along with a mobile phone believed to have been used in the alleged operation. The recovered items have been taken into official custody as part of the investigation.

Authorities have also seized all available digital evidence for forensic examination. Experts will analyze the mobile phone and other digital records to determine the full scale of the network. Investigators will examine communication records, digital activities, and possible financial transactions linked to the case. The forensic analysis will also help identify additional suspects who may have played a role in the illegal business.

Officials say the investigation is still ongoing, and more arrests could be made if further evidence points to other members of the network. Law enforcement agencies are working to uncover how the activated SIM cards were obtained and whether the operation extended to other cities or regions.
