The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has arrested a 17-year-old student in Bahawalpur over an alleged attempt to poison his father with help from an artificial intelligence (AI) tool.

NCCIA Arrests Teenager Over Alleged AI-Assisted Attempt to Poison Father
The case came to the attention of Pakistani authorities after they received intelligence from abroad. Following the information, the NCCIA launched an investigation and traced the alleged activities to the teenager in Bahawalpur.
Investigators reportedly found evidence that chemicals had been prepared at the residence. The teenager allegedly obtained chemicals from Australia and Islamabad as part of his plan.
The NCCIA said the teenager had initially tried to harm his father, but the attempt was unsuccessful. He later allegedly turned to an AI system for further guidance as he attempted to carry out the plan again.
Authorities also said the teenager had reportedly been influenced by crime dramas. This inspiration allegedly led him to create a laboratory at his residence and experiment with chemicals.

The NCCIA director ordered action after receiving information about the case. Investigators subsequently conducted inquiries that resulted in the teenager’s arrest.
The incident has raised concerns about the potential misuse of AI tools to obtain information that could facilitate harmful activities. AI systems are designed to prevent assistance with dangerous or illegal activities, but authorities continue to investigate cases involving the alleged misuse of such technology.
The investigation into the case is ongoing, and further details about the charges and legal proceedings are expected as authorities continue their inquiry.
