Netflix Surprises Fans with Free Access to ‘Squid Game: Unleashed’

In a surprise move, Netflix is breaking tradition by offering “Squid Game: Unleashed” game free to non-subscribers for a limited period. Generally, the streaming giant has a paywalled approach to its gaming catalog. The free game will launch on December 17, just before the Season 2 premiere of the popular South Korean series Squid Games on December 26.

The multiplayer battle royale game challenges contestants to survive iconic contests from the show, including Red Light, Green Light, and Glass Bridge. Moreover, it allows up to 32 players to contest in intense tournaments, bringing the thrilling series to life in an interactive format. Following Netflix’s gaming traditions, the game will not feature ads or in-app purchases, thus offering an uninterrupted experience.

Netflix Games President Alain Tascan explained the company’s decision to make the game accessible to all, emphasizing its goal of expanding participation from around the globe. The move also sheds light on Netflix’s ambition to integrate interactive gaming into its entertainment offerings by leveraging the massive fanbase of ‘Squid Game.’

Availability and Future Plans

The free period for non-members hasn’t been given any timeline but the game will eventually require a Netflix subscription. Players can pre-register on both Android and iOS platforms to secure early access.
