A new bug has been discovered in iOS 11.2.5 that lets people send a specific character that will crash an iPhone and block access to the Messages app in iOS and popular apps like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Outlook for iOS, and Gmail. New iOS Bug Can Crash Your iPhone

Mobile World , Italian Blog spotted the bug on multiple iPhones running iOS 11.2.5, and found it also works on the macOS versions of Safari and Messages. Apple plans to fix the problem in an iOS update before the release of iOS 11.3 this spring.

The error occurs when a single character from Telugu – a language native to India and spoken by about 70 million people – is received by some devices or typed into a text editor.

When the message is received while the app is closed, causing a notification to appear, the iOS Springboard will crash. Among other things, Springboard manages the iOS home screen.

According to iMore, Apple is aware of the problem and is working on a quick fix and beta versions of the upcoming iOS 11.3 have already had the glitch eradicated.
