In the first phase, this system was introduced in Karachi and Baluchistan on December 31, 2013 and in the second phase, biometric verification devices were installed all across the country.
New SIMS are being issued through Biometric Fingerprint Verification System, says NADRA
A spokesman of PTA has said that all new SIMs are being issued under biometric verification process. Regarding old SIMs, the spokesperson added that a lengthy exercise was carried out to correct SIM owners’ data through NADRA. Resultantly all SIMs were registered against a CNIC hence it’s incorrect to says that illegal SIMs are being used.
On the direction of PTA, Mobile companies have already blocked all such SIMs which have been activated through previous process but are not being used for some time. All such SIMs shall be activated only through BVS.
