Nisar Asks ICT Not to Take Action Against Uber & Careem. As we all know that the issue of legal permit of both the ride-sharing services, namely Careem and Uber has been circulating from quite some days. Different news were shared related to the ban of these services.

Though it has been cleared by Dr. Umar Saif that these companies were never banned but will have to fulfill legal obligations.

While responding to this issue, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan also asked Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) not to take any action against these popular app-based services.

“Today, the interior minister directed us not to take action against Uber and Careem.”

said Islamabad deputy commissioner retired Capt Mushtaq Ahmed.

Similarly, last year the Islamabad administration had issued notices to all ridesharing services to stop their businesses because they were not using commercial vehicles.

Ministry of Interior’s spokesperson briefed that the Minister took notice of Uber and Careem being banned. In this regard he asked for a report from the Deputy Commissioner.

Quoting the minister the statement read:

“The people cannot be deprived of a cheap and quality transport facility.”

While taking to Dawn, the Islamabad DC informed that the Minister had told him not to take any action against the ridesharing services for now.

He further added that,

“Our drive against unregistered taxi services was not specifically against Uber and Careem. Rather we took action against several other vehicles.”

The Deputy Commissioner said that the ICT will look into this issue. And find a way to register these app-based services.

Uber and Careem are the world’s most popular ride-hailing services , claiming on average 107 countries around the globe. In other countries they claim to surge prices three times the minimum fare during peak hours and four times between midnight and 5 am.
