No internet service in Iran for four days

Iran is currently amid all the chaos. There are economic sanctions on Iran by the USA which is the root cause of instability. Due to these sanctions, the inflation is growing on daily basis. The government’s response is still an aggressive one. They don’t want to give up against the external powers. But the cost of this response is the suffering of Iranian citizens who have been badly affected due to this turmoil.

No internet service in Iran for four days

An internet monitoring agency NetBlocks has found that internet service has been cut off in Iran for four days now. About a week ago, the government announced a sharp increase in oil prices. In response, there were violent protests in the country. But suddenly, all the new updates of protests stopped appearing at social media.

Internet connections started to go dark on the evening of Saturday. Gradually afterwards there was a complete internet black out. And now there is no internet connectivity for four days. The monitoring agency NetBlocks has different tools to scrutinize the internet fluctuations in every region of the world.  There is a live graph  tracking Iran’s network connectivity. The graph showed that the internet traffic in the country has plummeted to 5% of normal levels.

Iranian citizens who are living abroad have shared stories on social media about being cut off from their siblings and friends back home.  There have been many tweets posted on twitter by the Iranians who are explaining the situation. And some of the tweets even mentioned leaders like Trump and Macron to save them for this situation.

We cannot predict the future trajectory of this situation. But leadership of Iran must normalize the situation as soon as possible. Or the affects would  be devastating.
