Nokia has revamped its mapping tools under a new brand name to win back customers. Nokia has officially announced that it has acquired 3-D map-technology maker Earthmine Inc.

The reason behind the acquisition is to step up in competition. By importing Earthmine’s mapping street-level graphics into HERE Maps will help Nokia get an upper hand and eventually will improve its entire Maps ecosystem.
Earthmine inc.’s genuineness capture and processing technologies will become integral parts of the 3D map making capabilities of HERE. However, the exact details of the agreement are still confidential.
