Now People will be able to Register Phones with PTA USSD System

The launch of DIRBS is a very good initiative however many people are still confused about how to register their devices with PTA. In fact now in order to facilitate International Travellers, PTA in collaboration with FBR has launched a new web-based user interface application in DIRBS for the regularisation and registration of unregistered mobile phones in Pakistan. It means now, one can pay duties and taxes online rather than standing in long queue on the Airport. For now, International travellers will be able to bring phones in their luggage and don’t need to declare it on Airport. Now Mobile phones can be registered without the internet, thanks to PTA. Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has introduced the Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) system for registration of mobile phones. PTA USSD System will be facilitating overseas Pakistani too.

PTA has collaborated with telecom operators to bring this system for facilitating people. According to industry sources, this USSD system will be implemented within two months.

PTA introduces USSD system for mobile phone registration

USSD is a Global System for Mobile (GSM) communication technology that is incorporated to send messages between a mobile phone and application program in a network. SO now with this new system, people will be able to register their mobile phones via SMS.

Previously PTA had launched DIRBS, an online registration system for registering devices with PTA. The online registration system became operational from February 15.

So now people coming from other countries to Pakistan will not have wait in long queues at the airport for registering their devices. The overseas Pakistani just need to enter the credentials of their travel documents, passport and travel history for registering their mobile phones online. Moreover, free mobile allowed to passengers can also be registered in the same way.

According to the policy, Overseas Pakistanis are allowed to bring five mobile phones in a year. Only one duty-free mobile phone is allowed. They would have to get them registered within 15 days.
