Media attachments comprising images, GIFs, videos, and polls will no longer count alongside the 140-character limit. Neither will quote tweets, although if a link is included to another tweet that will be counted as normal.

Twitter is also trying out new replies that will not use usernames of the people you are answering to from the character limit. According to a GIF shared by the company, if you reply many people at once, Twitter omits all of them from your tweet.

These are good modifications from Twitter. Which has hauled its feet in rolling out expanded tweets after developing them for more than a year.

The company designed tweets that could comprise up to 10,000 characters. But uninhibited the design amongst concerns that it competed hostage to twitter’s identity as a place for brief updates. The plan was later curtailed to the alterations that rolled out yesterday.
