OnePlus 15 Gets New Update Unlocking 165Hz Support and Smarter Features

OnePlus has started rolling out a fresh software update for the newly launched OnePlus 15. The update, version 16.0.1.305, is currently rolling out to some users. While the changelog talks about performance improvements, stability updates, and bug fixes, there is one major change hidden beneath the surface. OnePlus 15 users will now be able to experience the full 165Hz refresh rate in more apps.
OnePlus 15 Gets New Update Unlocking 165Hz Support and Smarter Features
With this update, the 165Hz display can now be used on WhatsApp, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter). Earlier, the full refresh rate worked only on selected games. Other apps were capped at 120Hz. This update finally takes better advantage of the flagship display.
Feature Hidden in Developer Mode
Despite this improvement, OnePlus has buried the 165Hz option inside Developer Options. Users need to manually enable it, as the setting doesn’t appear in normal menus. There is no risk in turning on Developer Mode, but some banking apps may stop working unless it is turned back off.
There is another catch. Once 165Hz is enabled, it remains active at all times. The phone does not switch dynamically to lower refresh rates when the screen is idle. This could affect battery life because the display continues running at its highest speed. Many believe OnePlus could have allowed this feature directly through Display & Brightness settings, where most users expect refresh rate controls to be placed.
Better Camera and System Experience
This update also improves the OnePlus 15 camera. The app now opens faster, especially during quick captures. Wrong colours in certain lighting have been fixed. Videos shot on cloudy days now have more accurate colour tones. Face unlock accuracy has improved, and heat management during gaming feels better. Many early users report that the overall user interface is smoother and more stable after the update.
AI-Powered Network Intelligence Takes Spotlight
One of the most impressive additions is the upgraded AI LinkBoost Network Engine. OnePlus now shows users what this feature actually does. A new interface displays network optimizations in real time. It shows how much lag is reduced and when network acceleration activates in weak signal areas.
There is also a built-in speed test tool with live latency, upload, and download data. These additions help users see the immediate impact of network improvements, especially in areas with unstable coverage. In Indian conditions—busy public places, dense urban areas, and low-signal rural zones—this feature makes a noticeable difference.
Update Availability
The update has been released to a small group of OnePlus 15 users in India. Others will receive it in the coming days. Users can check for it by going to Settings > About Device > OxygenOS Update.
The OnePlus 15 comes in two variants: 12GB RAM with 256GB storage and 16GB RAM with 512GB storage. With this update, the phone now feels more refined than it did at launch.
Early feedback shows a faster camera, stronger performance, smoother display animations, and better network handling. With every update, OnePlus appears committed to unlocking more of the phone’s advertised features—just not always in the most direct way.
