OnePlus 5T is Unable to Support HD Streaming from Popular Apps

Now-a-days OnePlus 5T is getting popular among the customers but here is something interesting about this flagship device. It is unable to stream content from Netflix, Amlagazon Prime, Google Play Movies, and other video services in high-definition, despite its HD-capable display and powerful hardware. This was pointed out by whatthefunk, a OnePlus forum user. OnePlus 5T is Unable to Support HD Streaming from Popular Apps.

OnePlus 5T supports the level 3 Widevine certification only, as opposed to level 1, which is required for protected HD content. Widevine Level 3 only covers standard definition streams. This lack of support affects the above mentioned apps, only YouTube is not affected by this.

OnePlus 5T is Unable to Support HD Streaming from Popular Apps

Both the OnePlus 5T and its predecessor, the OnePlus 5, are  unable to stream Netflix or Amazon Prime Video higher than SD resolution.

A company spokesperson said that:

A future update for the 5T will enable Widevine Level 1, but did not elaborate on why it was omitted from the start.

The spokesperson did not provide a time frame that when the update will be released to users.

The OnePlus 5T is certainly capable of supporting high-definition video streams, as it comes with 6-inch, 1080p display and a powerful Snapdragon 835 processor paired with at least 6GB of RAM. Lack of support for HD streaming is an odd omission for such an impressive device, so we are hoping that OnePlus will be able to address it with the software update sooner.
