OPPO’s Next Smartphone will use Gorilla Glass 6

Corning Inc. has announced that OPPO will be the first mobile phone manufacturer to use Gorilla Glass 6. Moreover, OPPO’s new flagship model utilizing Gorilla Glass 6 is expected to release in the coming weeks.

The company has unveiled the Gorilla Glass 6 back in July 2018. The company says that OPPO is going to be the first OEM to integrate it into its new smartphone. Corning adds that more smartphone makers are looking to take advantage of the protective glass and it’s working closely with them.

Research reveals that mobile phone users drop their smartphones on average seven times per year. To protect the mobile’s screen from breaking, Corning scientists developed a new material to face the multiple drops. On average, in lab tests, Gorilla Glass 6 survived 15 drops from 1 meter onto rough surfaces. Under the same test conditions, competitive glass compositions, such as soda lime and aluminosilicate, did not survive the first drop.

In addition to designing Gorilla Glass 6 into its latest flagship model, Oppo was also one of the leading adopters of Gorilla Glass 5. In the recently launched Oppo Find X and R15 models, OPPO has used Gorilla Glass 5.

According to some latest rumors, OPPO is working on a new smartphone, F9 Pro. We may expect the Gorilla Glass 6 in that device. But we are not sure. Let’s see when OPPO will bring the new smartphone with this glass.
