Pakistan Assembles Over 11 Million Mobile Phones in First Five Months of 2026

The mobile phone manufacturing industry in Pakistan continued to demonstrate strong growth during the first five months of 2026, with local assembly plants producing more than 11 million mobile phones, significantly outpacing commercial imports, according to official data.

Between January and May 2026, local manufacturing and assembly facilities produced a total of 11.17 million mobile phones, compared to just 1.91 million handsets imported commercially during the same period. The figures underscore the success of Pakistan’s efforts to promote domestic mobile phone production and reduce reliance on imported devices.

Of the total locally assembled handsets, 4.92 million were smartphones, while 6.25 million were 2G feature phones. The data highlights the continued demand for both affordable feature phones and increasingly popular smartphones across the country.

The mobile manufacturing sector has witnessed remarkable expansion in recent years. During the full calendar year 2025, local plants assembled and manufactured 30.21 million mobile phones, compared to only 2.37 million commercially imported devices. The strong performance reflects growing investment in local production facilities and the positive impact of government policies aimed at encouraging domestic manufacturing.

The latest data also sheds light on the production of next-generation devices. During May 2026 alone, local manufacturers assembled 101,005 5G-enabled mobile handsets. While production levels were lower than the 553,079 5G devices assembled during 2025, industry observers note that demand for advanced smartphones is expected to increase as digital connectivity and mobile broadband services continue to expand.

According to data from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), smartphones now account for 72.3 percent of all mobile devices operating on Pakistan’s cellular network, while 27.7 percent remain 2G devices. The figures indicate a steady transition toward smartphone adoption, driven by greater internet accessibility, digital services, and affordable locally assembled handsets.

Industry experts believe the sustained growth of local mobile manufacturing is strengthening Pakistan’s technology ecosystem, generating employment opportunities, and supporting the country’s broader import substitution strategy. As smartphone penetration continues to rise and local production capacity expands, Pakistan’s mobile phone industry will play an increasingly important role in the nation’s digital transformation and industrial development.
