Pakistan Celebrates World Telecommunication Day

Telecommunication sector has covered all the spheres of life with its contribution and inventions. 17th May is marked as the World Telecommunication Day, the purpose of this day is to help raise awareness of the possibilities that the use of the Internet and other information and communication technologies (ICT) can bring to societies and economies, as well as of ways to bridge the digital divide.

Following the global trend, the ministry of Information Technology celebrates this day every year in Pakistan. Pakistan aims to spread telecom facilities throughout the country and elaborate efforts to ensure cyber security around the globe.

  • A preparatory meeting chaired by the secretary IT& Telecom was held in the Ministry to deliberate on the various aspects to make this event a success.

This year World Telecom Day’s theme is, “Better Life in Rural Communities with Information and Communication Technology (ICTs)” with the aim to ensure that ICTs will contribute to a better future for rural populations. The theme is approved by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The activities of this year World Telecom day will revolve around this theme.
