Pakistan Expands 5G Services to 20+ Cities as User Base Reaches 1.3 Million

Pakistan’s Ministry of Information Technology and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) are accelerating efforts to expand the country’s 5G footprint, with the service now active at more than 1,200 sites across 23 cities, according to officials.

Ministry officials said the number of 5G users in Pakistan has reached around 1.3 million, marking notable progress in the four months since the service began expanding nationwide.

The rollout follows the 5G spectrum auction held on March 10, 2026, after which mobile operators began activating new sites and installing the infrastructure required to support next-generation mobile services.

Officials said telecom operators were given targets to expand 5G coverage by bringing additional sites online and strengthening supporting infrastructure in different parts of the country.

The ministry said work is continuing to activate more sites as operators gradually extend 5G availability beyond the initial rollout areas.

The expansion is expected to improve access to high-speed mobile internet in more cities and support wider adoption of data-intensive services.

According to officials, the 5G network has already reached 23 cities within four months, while operators continue to deploy equipment and upgrade sites to increase coverage.

The government and PTA are also monitoring the rollout to ensure that operators meet their deployment commitments following the spectrum auction.

The next phase of expansion is expected to focus on adding more sites and extending coverage to additional urban areas, as Pakistan moves to scale up its 5G network nationwide.
