Pakistan Intensified Cybersecurity Measures During Tensions with India, Economic Survey Reveals

The Economic Survey of Pakistan 2025-26 has highlighted the country’s extensive cybersecurity measures undertaken during the period of heightened tensions with India, emphasizing efforts to safeguard national digital infrastructure and counter misinformation campaigns.

According to the survey, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) maintained round-the-clock cyber monitoring from April to May 2025 to protect national digital assets and ensure cybersecurity readiness amid regional developments.

The report revealed that the PTA restricted and blocked access to 202 digital assets identified as hostile or linked to adversarial activities. These measures were aimed at preventing cyber threats and protecting Pakistan’s digital ecosystem from potential security risks.

In addition, the PTA directed over-the-top (OTT) platforms to remove content of Indian origin deemed inappropriate or contrary to national interests during the period under review.

The survey further noted that the PTA worked closely with relevant government institutions to combat cross-border disinformation and misinformation campaigns. Coordinated efforts were undertaken to identify and counter false narratives circulating online.

The Economic Survey stated that these actions played a significant role in strengthening national digital security and effectively neutralizing propaganda campaigns targeting Pakistan’s information space.

Officials described the measures as part of a broader strategy to enhance cyber resilience, protect critical digital infrastructure, and maintain information security during periods of regional uncertainty.
