Pakistan Launches Digital Marriage Registration Lounge to Simplify Nikkah and Registration Process

In a move aimed at advancing the Digital Pakistan vision, the National Information Technology Board (NITB) has introduced a new digital model for marriage registration, seeking to streamline the traditionally lengthy and fragmented process through a one-window service.
The initiative has been launched at the Pakistan Aasaan Khidmat Centre in Islamabad, where a dedicated and free marriage registration lounge has been established to facilitate citizens with nikkah and marriage registration services under a single roof.
According to officials, the new system is designed to make the marriage registration process faster, more convenient, and digitally integrated. The facility brings together key stakeholders involved in the registration process, including the Nikkah Registrar, NADRA, and the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, eliminating the need for citizens to visit multiple offices to complete legal formalities.
Officials say that once a nikkah is solemnized, the relevant records can be processed and coordinated with NADRA and other concerned institutions more efficiently, helping reduce delays associated with traditional registration mechanisms.
NITB officials described the initiative as part of ongoing efforts to modernize public services through technology while ensuring greater accessibility for citizens. They noted that the facility has been specifically designed to provide an affordable and dignified environment for marriage registration, particularly benefiting low-income families.
The launch also aligns with the government’s commitment to delivering faster, easier, and lower-cost public services under the Digital Pakistan framework. By digitizing key administrative processes and integrating multiple government services, authorities aim to improve transparency, efficiency, and convenience for the public.
Officials believe the one-window marriage registration facility could serve as a model for future digital governance initiatives, demonstrating how technology can simplify everyday interactions between citizens and government institutions.
As Pakistan continues its digital transformation journey, projects such as the Marriage Registration Lounge highlight the increasing role of technology in modernizing public service delivery and improving the overall citizen experience.
