Pakistan has finally decided to manufacture mobile phones in home. Five mobile companies are looking to set up their assembly line in Pakistan. It is expected that ‘Assembled in Pakistan’ devices will also grow imports in Pakistan. Five companies which have decided to set up their assembly lines in Pakistan includes Haier, G5, Jio Phone, Mobo Mobiles and Foxconn.

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has also issued procedure to set up assembly line in Pakistan. In a statement, PTA official said:

We expect these companies to start manufacturing mobile phones in their plants soon. Mobile Phone users in Pakistan are the fastest shifting to hi-tech products of the 24 million mobile sets being imported in a year, almost half are smartphones.

Manufacturing mobile phones at home will definitely bring down the prices of devices and will also increase demand for smartphones. In this way Pakistan will rapidly achieve its goal of digitization. PTA has also asked the companies that all the devices assembled in Pakistan should have clear marketing stating          “Assembled in Pakistan“.

PTA will issue NOC for the first six months to these companies to inform telecom sector regulator regarding assembly plants. After period of six months the companies will show if their plants are working in accordance to international standards.

Assembled in Pakistan initiative will not only reduce prices of mobile sets, it will also eradicate smuggling form the nation and will boost imports.

The establishment of Assembly plants will also increase broadband adoption as more people will be able to afford smartphones due to low prices.
