Pakistan Moves Ahead with First Centralized 911 Emergency Helpline, KP to Launch Service First
NTC signs agreement with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to launch Pakistan’s first unified emergency helpline, ensuring faster response through nearest emergency centers.

Pakistan is taking a major step toward modernizing its emergency response system, as the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) confirmed that work on the country’s first centralized emergency helpline, the 911 service, is actively underway.
Officials told the committee that an agreement has now been finalized with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government, making KP the first province where the unified 911 emergency system will be launched.
According to NTC officials, the new system is designed to streamline all emergency calls under a single national number, replacing the scattered helplines currently used for police, rescue, fire, and ambulance services.
Explaining the mechanism, officials said that any call made from any location within KP will automatically be routed to the nearest emergency response center, ensuring faster coordination and quicker deployment of resources.
This eliminates the delays caused by misdirected calls, multiple helpline numbers, or unclear jurisdiction.
Once the system is launched in KP, the NTC plans to expand the centralized 911 service to other provinces, creating a nationwide unified emergency network similar to international systems used in the United States, Canada, and several European countries.
Officials added that the centralized model would significantly improve response times, help reduce emergency mismanagement, and provide citizens with a single, easy-to-remember number during critical situations.
The initiative is expected to support Pakistan’s broader digital governance reforms, enabling better coordination between provincial emergency departments, integrating real-time tracking, and ensuring a structured escalation system for major incidents.
Further updates on rollout timelines and expansion plans are expected once the provincial integration phase begins.
