Pakistan’s IT, Telecom Export Remittances Decline in November, Five-Month Growth Remains Strong

Pakistan’s information technology (IT) and telecommunication export remittances declined by around 8 percent in November 2025, easing to $356 million from a record $386 million in October, according to data compiled from the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
Despite the month-on-month dip, the sector continued to post robust growth during the ongoing fiscal year. In the first five months of FY2025-26 (July–November), IT and telecom export receipts reached $1.796 billion, an 18 percent increase compared with $1.521 billion in the same period last year.
October marked a milestone for the industry, with export remittances touching an all-time monthly high of $386 million. The surge reflected rising international demand for Pakistan’s software development services, IT-enabled solutions, and telecommunication offerings.
On a year-on-year basis, the sector also showed resilience. IT export remittances in November were more than 14 percent higher than the approximately $311 million recorded in the same month a year earlier, underscoring sustained underlying demand despite short-term volatility.
The continued expansion has strengthened the sector’s contribution to the national export basket. IT exports now account for over 10.8 percent of Pakistan’s total exports, the highest share recorded to date, highlighting the growing role of technology-driven services as a key source of foreign exchange earnings.
Industry analysts attribute the overall upward trend to increased global outsourcing, gradual improvements in digital infrastructure, broader participation by freelancers and software firms, and policy measures aimed at supporting export-oriented IT services. However, they caution that sustaining momentum will depend on consistent reforms, exchange rate stability, and further facilitation for exporters.
While the November slowdown points to near-term fluctuations, the broader trajectory of Pakistan’s IT and telecommunication exports remains positive, positioning the sector as a critical pillar of economic growth and export diversification.
