Pakistan’s Local Mobile Phone Production Hits 27.6 Million Units in 11 Months of 2025

Pakistan’s local mobile phone manufacturing and assembling sector recorded robust growth during the first eleven months of the calendar year 2025, significantly outpacing commercial imports, according to official data.

During January–November 2025, local manufacturing and assembling plants produced 27.6 million mobile handsets, compared to only 2.04 million phones imported commercially over the same period. In November alone, local plants manufactured or assembled 2.49 million handsets, while commercial imports stood at just 0.034 million units.

Of the total locally produced handsets, 14.51 million were smartphones, while 13.09 million were 2G phones. Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) data further indicates that smartphones now account for 71 percent of mobile devices operating on Pakistani networks, with 2G phones making up the remaining 29 percent.

Despite strong local production, mobile phone imports registered notable growth in the current fiscal year. Pakistan imported mobile phones worth $801.139 million during the first five months (July–November) of fiscal year 2025–26, compared to $570.184 million in the corresponding period last year, reflecting an increase of over 40.51 percent. In rupee terms, imports rose to Rs 226.133 billion from Rs 158.518 billion, marking a 42.65 percent growth.

On a month-on-month basis, mobile phone imports increased by 8.30 percent to $156.565 million in November 2025, compared to $144.563 million in October 2025. However, on a year-on-year basis, imports declined by 4.81 percent when compared to $149.378 million in November 2024.

Looking at the broader trend, Pakistan imported mobile phones worth $1.494 billion during fiscal year 2024–25, representing a decline of 21.31 percent from $1.898 billion in fiscal year 2023–24. In rupee terms, mobile phone imports fell to Rs 417.351 billion from Rs 535.690 billion, showing a reduction of 22.09 percent.

Overall telecom imports into Pakistan during fiscal year 2024–25 amounted to $2.099 billion, down 11.30 percent from $2.366 billion recorded in the previous fiscal year.

The data highlights a strengthening of local mobile phone manufacturing capabilities alongside fluctuating import patterns, reflecting both policy impacts and evolving consumer demand in Pakistan’s telecom sector.
