Paying for Services You Don’t Use? PTA Shares Easy Codes to Check and Cancel Mobile Subscriptions

Mobile phone users across Pakistan can now more easily check and deactivate unwanted Value Added Services (VAS) after the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) directed all cellular operators to provide simplified access to subscription information.

The initiative is aimed at improving transparency in the telecom sector and helping consumers identify services that may be generating recurring charges on their mobile accounts.

Under the new consumer facilitation measure, subscribers of all major mobile networks can now view their active VAS subscriptions through dedicated USSD codes and deactivate services they no longer wish to use.

According to PTA, the move is designed to strengthen consumer rights by giving users greater visibility into services linked to their mobile numbers and enabling them to manage subscriptions more effectively.

Value-added services include a range of optional mobile offerings such as entertainment packages, news alerts, caller tunes, information services, and other subscription-based products that may carry additional charges.

Industry observers have long noted that many consumers remain unaware of active subscriptions attached to their accounts, resulting in deductions that often go unnoticed. The latest measure seeks to address those concerns by making subscription details readily accessible.

To review active services, subscribers can dial the following codes:

• Zong: *6611#

• Telenor: *4444#

• Ufone: *6869#

PTA has encouraged mobile users to periodically check their active subscriptions and deactivate services they no longer require in order to avoid unnecessary expenses.

The regulator said the initiative forms part of its broader efforts to promote consumer-centric practices and enhance transparency within Pakistan’s telecommunications sector.
