PIMS Sees Major Digital Transformation with One Patient, One ID System

The Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) has reported significant progress in its digital health operations following the implementation of the One Patient, One ID system, a unique initiative aimed at streamlining patient care and improving healthcare delivery.
According to PIMS officials, the five-month rollout has registered 813,361 patients under the system, with each patient receiving a unique digital identity linked to their CNIC, which serves as a permanent medical record number.
The system has already recorded 1.5 million laboratory tests and 220,067 radiology tests, ensuring comprehensive documentation of patient diagnostics. At emergency counters, 387,610 patients have been registered, highlighting the system’s impact on urgent care services.
The introduction of the digital ID has also optimized inpatient management, with 29,677 patients admitted to various departments during the same period. Daily outpatient visits have risen from 5,000 to 7,500 patients, while emergency visits have increased by 2,500 patients per day, reflecting enhanced operational efficiency and patient flow.
To facilitate the system, PIMS trained over 2,000 staff members, ensuring smooth integration and effective usage across all departments. Officials noted that waiting times for medical reports have reduced to three to four hours, improving patient experience.
The One Patient, One ID system allows patients’ complete medical records to be accessed across hospitals, helping to minimize duplicate tests and support continuous care. It also serves as a foundation for telemedicine services and public health planning, according to authorities.
Officials emphasized that the system is designed to enhance the quality of patient care, improve treatment continuity, and provide reliable data for healthcare policy and planning.
