P@SHA Leadership Crisis Erupts as Chairman Rejects No-Confidence Vote, Calls Removal Illegal
P@SHA faces a leadership crisis as Chairman Sajjad Syed rejects the no-confidence vote and calls his removal illegal.

A leadership dispute has erupted within the Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA), with the association’s Central Executive Committee announcing that it had passed a no-confidence motion against Chairman Sajjad Mustafa Syed and handed acting charge to Senior Vice Chairman Muhammad Umair Nizam.
In a message circulated to P@SHA members, the association said the Central Executive Committee had approved the no-confidence motion by a two-thirds majority and that Nizam would assume the role of acting chairman with immediate effect until the election of a new chairman.
The communication asked members to take note of the change and extend their cooperation to the acting chairman during the interim period.
Syed, however, has rejected the move, describing it as “unfortunate and illegal” and saying it is being challenged.
In a response shared with members, Syed said he was in Doha at the time and linked the dispute to an application he had filed with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) against unidentified individuals over an anonymous email.
According to Syed, the subsequent investigation led to several current and former members of P@SHA’s Central Executive Committee, as well as some staff members, being called for questioning.
These claims could not be independently verified from the material available, and no public statement from the NCCIA confirming the details was immediately available.
Syed said he intended to pursue the matter through legal channels and argued that the association and Pakistan’s wider IT community should avoid what he described as internal political maneuvering.
The development has exposed a sharp divide within P@SHA at a sensitive time for the organization.
Another message circulating among industry members argued that the same representatives who elect a chairman also have the authority to remove one, while calling for the dispute to be resolved without damaging P@SHA’s standing in the market.
The message noted that elections are approaching and suggested that the incoming Central Executive Committee should be allowed to address the matter.
P@SHA’s official election schedule shows that elections for its Central Executive Committee and office bearers for the 2026–2028 term are scheduled for Sept. 17, 2026, with the final voter list being issued and nominations opening on Aug. 24.
That timing adds another layer to the dispute, as the leadership crisis has emerged just weeks before members are due to elect a new governing body.
P@SHA is one of Pakistan’s most prominent technology industry associations and regularly represents the IT and IT-enabled services sector in discussions with the government on taxation, exports, connectivity, regulation, and investment.
Its current website and public material continued to identify Sajjad Mustafa Syed in senior representative roles in recent days, including as chairman in industry-related content, while Muhammad Umair Nizam has also held prominent leadership responsibilities within the association.
The immediate question is now whether the no-confidence decision will stand or be suspended or overturned through a legal or internal governance process.
With elections less than a month away, industry members are increasingly calling for the disagreement to be resolved quickly and without further reputational damage to the organization.
Unless the competing sides reach an agreement, the leadership contest could now shift from an internal governance dispute into a broader legal and electoral battle over control of Pakistan’s leading IT industry association.
