PTA and Facebook Join Hands to Block Blasphemous URL’s in Pakistan

PTA has asked Facebook officials to link account of Facebook with mobile phone number. This will ease the social site to fight with fake accounts and also help to control the blasphemous posts on Facebook. PTA and Facebook Join Hands to Block Blasphemous URL’s in Pakistan.

While addressing National Standing Commitee on IT & Telecommunication, IT Secretary, Rizwan Bashir explained that the Facebook account is verified through e-mail which is not a secure procedure. He added that connecting opening of account with mobile number is more secure as now SIMS are biometrically verified in Pakistan.

In the meeting, Syed Ismail Shah, Chairman PTA revealed that around 12,977 blasphemous URLs have been removed from Facebook. He told that 6000 complaints are still under review out of which 350 are blocked.

PTA and Facebook has joined hands and are working effortlessly for filtering Facebook content. PTA has designated 25 individual solely to find blasphemous content on Facebook. Facebook has also designated a specific person to coordinate with PTA on removal of unethical content. It is reported that 137 blasphemous links are removed from Facebook  since February 2017,under supervision of PTA.

After the request to block Facebook in Pakistan by Government of Pakistan, the social media giant responded very positively. It approached to aid Pakistan to control blasphemous content posted.

Facebook is positively helping Pakistan Government in removing content that spread hatred. The Photo sharing platform, revealed that it received 1000 requests from Pakistan in 2016. Out of these requests 70% are tackled. Facebook is ready to welcome further requests as well.
