PTA Blocked 188 Websites for Uploading Blasphemous Content

During a meeting held at Parliament House headed by Syed Ali Raza Abidi, it was revealed that Pakistan Telecom Authority has taken action against 188 websites for uploading blasphemous material. PTA Blocked 188 Websites for Uploading Blasphemous Content.

The MNAs Mehar Ishtiaq Ahmad, Zahra Wadood Fatemi, Sardar Kamal Khan Chang, Amjid Ali Khan, Engineer Dawar Khan Kundi,  Shahjehan Muneer Mangrio and Muhammad Tufail attended the meeting. The senior officers from the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, PTA and SCO also attended the meeting.

Dr Ismail Shah, Chaiman PTA briefed the committee regarding the actions taken by PTA to eradicate blasphemous material on social media. PTA has received 9,000 applications against blasphemous material and has monitored more than 7,000 websites.

Dr Ismail also told that PTA has blocked 3,025 sites on IT ministry recommendations.  Websites indulged in such activities are refereed to Federal Investigation Agency so that relevant action should be taken.

The committee also asked PTA Chairman, Dr Ismail Shah to launch Public awareness campaigns via media to get rid of dangerous games like Blue Whale.

In the meeting, Syed Ismail Shah, Chairman PTA revealed that around 12,977 blasphemous URLs have been removed from Facebook. He told that 6000 complaints are still under review out of which 350 are blocked. Chairmen PTA also informed the committee that around 500 towers of mobile companies are closed by security guards few days back.

This is a very positive step on part of PTA as there is a big no for content that spreads hatred and creates unrest in Pakistan. Government along with all relevant authorities should take all possible actions to cater the issue of Blasphemy.
