PTA Conditionally Approves Ufone-Telenor Rebranding

The rebranding of the merged Ufone-Telenor mobile operation could take place soon after the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) gave conditional approval for the change.
According to sources, PTA has approved the proposed rebranding, but the approval is subject to the completion of all required legal formalities. The regulator has asked Pakistan Telecom Mobile Limited (PTML), the company operating the merged business, to complete the necessary requirements before moving ahead with the new brand.

However, the exact date for the rebranding has not yet been confirmed. Reports suggesting that a formal launch event could be held on September 15 have not been confirmed by PTA. Sources said the regulator has not received any official confirmation about such an event.
The merger of Ufone and Telenor Pakistan has already been completed under PTML. The move brought the two companies’ spectrum resources, network infrastructure and customer base under one mobile operation. The combined business now serves more than 74 million subscribers across Pakistan.
Following the merger, PTML proposed replacing the existing Ufone and Telenor Pakistan brands with the global e& brand. The company will notify PTA after completing the required legal procedures and before starting any commercial or promotional activities under the new identity.
The proposed brand change had earlier faced delays due to legal and corporate governance concerns related to the approval process. The latest conditional approval indicates that the process is now moving forward, although some formal requirements still need to be completed.

For customers, the transition will depend on the final plan announced by PTML. The company has not yet officially confirmed whether the Ufone and Telenor names will be replaced immediately or whether there will be a gradual transition.
While e& remains the proposed identity for the combined operation, PTML has yet to publicly announce the final brand name, official launch date, or detailed transition plan for Ufone and Telenor customers.
We will get more details once PTML completes the remaining legal requirements and formally communicates its plans to the regulator and customers.
