PTA data shows rising local smartphone production in 2025, with vivo and Tecno among top gainers

Pakistan’s local smartphone production continued to rise in 2025, according to updated data released by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), reflecting sustained momentum in domestic assembly and a gradual shift in market dynamics.
The figures, covering January to November 2025, indicate that locally assembled smartphones now account for the bulk of devices supplied to the market, as manufacturers expand production to manage costs and respond to changing consumer demand amid high import duties.
Mid-range brands record notable gains
Among the brands showing notable growth, vivo emerged as one of the leading gainers during the period, assembling approximately 2.57 million smartphones in the first eleven months of the year. The increase highlights steady demand for the company’s mid-range devices, particularly models positioned around camera performance, battery life, and balanced specifications.
Tecno also recorded year-on-year growth, with around 1.73 million units assembled locally. The brand continued to perform strongly in the value-to-mid segment, benefiting from demand in second- and third-tier cities where affordability, storage capacity, and incremental feature upgrades remain key purchasing factors.
High-volume players maintain scale
Infinix remained the largest contributor by volume, with roughly 3.47 million units assembled during the period, followed by VGO Tel at about 3.07 million units. While these brands continue to dominate in scale, their growth has been comparatively steady, reflecting saturation in the lower-priced segment.
Other manufacturers, including itel, Samsung, Redmi, QMobile, realme, and Oppo, collectively accounted for a substantial share of local production. Samsung assembled approximately 1.57 million units, while Redmi and realme remained below the 1.5 million mark, amid intensifying competition in the mid-range category.
Industry analysts say the latest PTA data points to a maturing smartphone market in Pakistan, with consumers increasingly opting for locally assembled mid-range devices that offer better displays, faster charging, and improved camera systems compared to entry-level handsets.
Local production has played a central role in enabling manufacturers to maintain price competitiveness while meeting evolving consumer expectations. The trend is expected to continue into 2026, with brands that balance scale, features, and pricing likely to shape the next phase of Pakistan’s smartphone market.
