PTA has blocked these Websites over Unethical Content

PTA blocked access to some popular websites for a whole week, for having unethical content. PTA ordered ISPs to block the user’s access to the following websites:  alibaba.com, bloomberg.com, buzzfeed.com, and gsmarena.com. People residing in Pakistan were con confused over it, as many want to order things for Eid from Alibaba.

All the services providers including PTCL, Nayatel, Telenor, Zong, and Jazz made their users unable to connect to these websites as per directives of PTA. I was also trying to access Gsmaarena for some time and was confused about what actually is the issue until Dawn contacted the services providers and came to know about this issue.

This is not the first time PTA has blocked website over objectionable content. Some months back PTA had blocked 800,000 websites for the same issue but as this website are very renowned, people are not happy with this decision.

PTA denied the blockage of these Websites

While talking about the issue, an executive from PTA said that:“The directions actually come from the Ministry of Interior, which also identifies objectionable or controversial content posted on a particular website and tells the PTA to block it,”When Dawn reached out to PTA and asked why the information on the website is not accessible, it asked ISPs to unblock these site, however, am still not able to open them.
