PTA, HEC & PERN Collaborates to Host SANOG 29 Conference. The Twenty Ninth South Asian Network Operators Group (SANOG 29) conference will be held at HEC Headquarters in Islamabad, from 23-30 January 2017.  Further details about the location will be updated soon.

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Higher Education Commission (HEC) in consort with Pakistan Education & Research Network (PERN) will be the hosts for SANOG 29.

Ministry of IT and Telecom (MoIT) and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is working for the proliferation of modern technologies in Pakistan and emphasize for the capacity building of Pakistani IT & Telecom community on modern Technologies.  

PTA has taken several steps toward awareness of modern technologies and capacity building of IT and Telecom sector of Pakistan. PTA has arranged several training programs on IXP operations, IPv6 routing, Big Data, DNSSEC and Internet Resource Management (IRM), in collaboration with international organizations like ICANN, ISOC, APNIC, and NSRC, at Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi.

The SANOG Fellowship Program marks people from South Asian countries who are keenly involved in Internet development, in any of the following domains:

  • Engineers (Network Builders)
  • Technology Decision Makers
  • Educators and trainers

Following are the details of the Event:

Call of Papers:

First three days of the event have been dedicated for Conference on modern Network technologies, followed by three parallel, five days workshops on “Campus Network Design and Security”, “IPv4/ IPv6 Routing” and “DNS and DNSSEC”.

The following is an open call for presentations for the conference and tutorial sessions for SANOG 29.

Conference Presentations:

The conference will contain 6 sessions over two days, counting the plenary. These are general meetings and those interested are summoned to recommend talks that they think are related to the Internet operational and investigation community.

Presentations are anticipated to be no longer than 25 minutes and with relevant technical content. Following are the topics:

  • Network Operations
  • Routing in the IP Core, BGP, MPLS, IPv6
  • Data Center, Switching Technologies, Virtualization
  • Security, IDS, DoS mitigation
  • Internet Exchange Point, transit & peering
  • Internet of Things
  • DNS, DNSSEC
  • ccTLDs, gTLDs IDNs
  • Any case studies or learning associated to operational technologies that you want to share with the community

Tutorial Proposals:

Tutorial suggestions are also called in the same general areas as for the conference. So feel free to suggest further ideas and themes.

The South Asian Network Operators Group is a non-profit forum for Data Network Operators in South Asia. SANOG was initiated to bring together operators for educational as well as co-operation. It offers a regional forum to deliberate operational issues and technologies of interest to data operators in the South Asian Region. The first SANOG Meeting was held back in January 2003 in Kathmandu.

The major objective is educational, but at the same time offers vendors an opportunity to talk to engineers about latest technology and products on the sidelines.
