PTA & Ministry of Commerce Sign MoU to Boost Digital Trade Ecosystem

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the Ministry of Commerce (MoC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen Pakistanโs digital trade ecosystem and drive innovation. The agreement was formalized during a ceremony at PTA Headquarters, attended by senior officials from both organizations.
The MoU focuses on advancing key areas such as e-commerce, cybersecurity, and cloud computing. It also aims to promote cross-border trade, enhance business efficiency, and encourage a competitive environment for businesses and consumers. Other central components of the collaboration include knowledge sharing and capacity building.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman PTA, Major General (R) Hafeez Ur Rehman, HI (M), emphasized PTAโs commitment to promoting a robust digital society through innovation and collaboration. Secretary MoC, Mr. Jawad Paul, praised PTAโs role in enabling e-commerce through a strong digital infrastructure and supporting digital inclusion initiatives.
Key attendees included the Director General (Strategy & Development) PTA, Mr. Ehsan Yar Khan, and Executive Director General MoC, Mr. Muhammad Ashraf. Both executives lauded the partnership as a step toward economic resilience and societal progress.
Our Perspective
The MoU is a promising step toward enhancing Pakistanโs digital trade landscape, however, its success depends heavily on effective implementation. Previous initiatives in similar domains often faced delays and challenges in execution. To achieve tangible results, both organizations must ensure continuous collaboration, transparency, and accountability. Clear benchmarks and timelines are essential to translate this vision into reality. By addressing these issues, this collaboration can indeed pave the way for a stronger and more competitive digital economy in Pakistan.
