PTA Blocks Over 3,000 Cyberattacks as Pakistan Climbs to 40th in Global Cybersecurity Ranking
Pakistan’s National Telecom Security Operations Center intercepted thousands of cyber threats, blocked 200 malicious activities, and strengthened defenses amid rising digital conflict.

Pakistan is facing an intensified wave of cyber threats, with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority’s National Telecom Security Operations Center (NTSOC) reporting a significant escalation in attacks targeting the country’s digital infrastructure. According to the latest data, the center handled more than 2,800 security alerts and detected over 3,000 cyberattacks during the current monitoring period, marking one of the busiest phases for the national cybersecurity system.
Officials say the spike reflects both Pakistan’s expanding digital footprint and the increasing sophistication of threat actors attempting to breach telecom and government systems.
Data Leaks and Account Breaches Raise Alarm
The NTSOC report warns of growing vulnerabilities across government and critical sectors. More than 300 data leak incidents were identified, involving sensitive information from public-sector organizations and telecom networks. The center also discovered over 4,000 compromised email and account credentials belonging to government and telecom employees, raising concerns over the safety of official communications.
Cybersecurity analysts note that targeted spear-phishing campaigns and unauthorized access attempts remain the most common attack vectors, highlighting the need for stronger authentication practices and wider cybersecurity awareness across public institutions.
200 Malicious Activities Blocked Within Pakistan
In what officials describe as a major operational success, NTSOC worked closely with internet service providers to block more than 200 malicious activities originating from within Pakistan. These disruptions involved suspicious traffic patterns, unauthorized digital probes and attempts to exploit system weaknesses. The move was crucial to preventing compromised systems from being used as launchpads for wider attacks.
24/7 Monitoring During Indo-Pak Digital Conflict
The report also highlights NTSOC’s critical role during the Indo-Pak digital conflict in May 2025. During heightened cross-border tensions, the center operated round-the-clock to detect and contain cyber offensives targeting Pakistan’s telecom infrastructure. Senior officials say this period tested the country’s cyber readiness and demonstrated the importance of real-time threat monitoring capabilities.
Pakistan Improves to 40th in Global Cybersecurity Ranking
Pakistan’s efforts to strengthen its cyber defenses are beginning to show results internationally. The country has risen from 79th to 40th position in the global cybersecurity rankings, a significant leap that places Pakistan among the fastest-improving digital security environments. PTA credits this performance to better threat intelligence sharing, stronger monitoring infrastructure and updated national cybersecurity guidelines.
New Anti-DDoS Strategy for National Protection
To further boost resilience, PTA has issued a comprehensive anti-DDoS strategy designed to protect critical national infrastructure from large-scale disruption. The guidelines aim to improve telecom-sector readiness, standardize response protocols and reduce the impact of high-volume attacks that can overwhelm networks.
Strengthening Pakistan’s Digital Shield
NTSOC continues to serve as the central hub for cyber-threat monitoring in Pakistan, providing advisory support to both public and private sectors. Its responsibilities include detecting phishing attempts, monitoring malicious traffic and scanning dark-web channels for indications of data leaks.
Officials say that while cyberattacks are increasing, Pakistan’s response mechanisms are becoming more coordinated and sophisticated. The challenge now is to expand the country’s cybersecurity workforce, improve infrastructure and ensure that digital defenses keep pace with evolving threats.
