PTA Seeks Email Security Solution to Protect Employees from Scams and Malicious Messages

The telecom regulator has sought bids for a dedicated email security solution aimed at protecting employees from malicious messages and ensuring continuity of official communications.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has initiated the procurement of a spam protection system for its employees as part of efforts to strengthen the security of its internal email communications.

According to a procurement notice published on the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) portal, the telecom regulator has invited bids for the supply of a spam protection device along with employee licenses. The tender was advertised on September 4, 2026, with a bid submission deadline of September 21.

The proposed system is intended to improve the protection of official email accounts against potentially harmful communications, including phishing attempts, suspicious attachments, and messages designed to impersonate legitimate senders.

The procurement comes as email remains a common entry point for cyber threats targeting organizations, where attackers may attempt to obtain confidential information, steal login credentials, or introduce malicious software through deceptive messages.

New System to Protect Official Emails and Maintain Communication

The planned security solution is expected to filter unwanted messages and identify potentially dangerous content before it reaches employees’ inboxes.

According to the reported procurement details, the system is also intended to help maintain access to incoming official correspondence if PTA’s primary email service experiences a temporary disruption.

Such functionality could reduce the risk of important communications being lost or interrupted during an email service outage.

The employee licenses would extend the security solution to official accounts, providing protection across the authority’s internal email environment.

The procurement is specifically intended for PTA’s own communications infrastructure and should not be confused with systems designed to block fraudulent calls or spam text messages received by mobile subscribers.

The tender has been issued under reference number PTA/ICT/P63698/2026 through a competitive bidding process using the single-stage, one-envelope procedure. Bids were scheduled to close at 11 am on September 21, with opening scheduled for 11:30 am.

The available procurement information does not establish that a contract has been awarded or that the system has already been deployed.

The initiative represents a proposed addition to the regulator’s internal cybersecurity infrastructure, with its eventual implementation depending on completion of the procurement process.
