PTA Streamlines the Type Approval Process with the Stakeholders

PTA held a meeting with all the distributors, OEMs and the stakeholders to discuss the problems they were facing in type approval process. This meeting was conducted at PTA’s office on 10th June, 2014.

The main agenda of the meeting was to streamline the type approval process, but other issues also remained part of the discussion during the meeting.

A very well and interactive was held between the PTA and all the participants of the meeting. They discussed about reducing the time duration for getting NOCs and the course of action for delayed cases needs to be identified so affected party can resort to it in delayed cases.

The authority discussed methods to curb grey trafficking of the handsets by introducing some incentives to whistle blowers, who will help the authority to control the crime via a toll free number or email. The advertising of consequences of smuggling will be highlighted on PTA website, as it will increase awareness among the industry. Plus it was also recommended that a centralized data base of IMEI should be established with PTA/FBR to eliminate grey channels.

The meeting also decided that PTA should introduce some guidelines, so that industry can follow the standards. On the one hand, the quantity of the sample devices also became the part of discussion industry and on the other hand it was also discussed that a registration process for qualified distributors may also be introduced.
