PTA To Impose New Tax on All Models Of Locally Manufactured Mobile Phones

According to the latest reports, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has decided to impose a new tax on all models of locally manufactured mobile phones. In this regard, a detailed meeting has been held between the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority regarding the new tax with the representatives of mobile phone manufacturers.

Sources claim that PTA has told all mobile phone manufacturing companies that the authority will impose a tax of Rs 120 on all mobile phones manufactured in Pakistan in the form of type approval and COC letter. Its purpose is to increase the revenue of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority. Mobile phone companies have also been warned in this regard.

According to the senior officials of the mobile phone manufacturing association, more than 3 million mobile phones are currently being made in Pakistan. An additional 120 rupees tax on the phones will be an injustice for the people. The officials of the mobile phone companies association have further said that they will not allow this new tax to be imposed. However, if PTA wants to increase its revenue, we can help in terms of license and type approval.

A few days back, the federal government of Pakistan also decided to impose an additional tax on non-filers. Now, they will have to pay ‘more taxes’ on mobile recharge and bundles. According to the latest reports, FBR devised a plan against non-filers which came into effect from May 15. The Shehbaz-led government will now impose a 2.5% additional tax as well as withholding on non-filers.
