PTA to Review the SOP to Control Cyber Crimes

The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has directed Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to review the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) in consultation with the Ministry to control cyber crimes, besides blocking unlawful online content.

Federal Secretary Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui chaired a meeting regarding cybercrime here on Wednesday. Chairman PTA Maj Gen (R) Amir Azeem Bajwa was also present in the meeting.

PTA to Review the Standard Operating Procedure For Cyber Crimes Control

Chairman PTA briefed the Federal Secretary Ministry of IT about the mandate and role of PTA regarding blocking of unlawful online content and the meeting also discussed the role of Federal Investigation (FIA) in curbing cybercrime.

The PTA chairman also apprised the meeting about the current status and issues regarding blocking of unlawful content.

The Federal Secretary Ministry of IT emphasized the need for joint efforts by PTA and FIA to block unlawful online content besides directing PTA to review the SOP in consultation with Ministry of IT.

The Federal Secretary also directed PTA and FIA to submit progress report regarding blocking of unlawful content and action taken for crimes committed in the cybersphere.

The meeting was also attended by Additional Director FIA and senior officers of the Ministry of IT.
