The Government of Punjab has launched an ambitious project, Punjab E-Taxi Scheme 2025, to promote electric mobility and create a cleaner transport system in the province. Through the Transport and Masstransit Department, the government has announced a pilot program in Lahore where 1,100 electric taxis will be distributed. A key highlight of the project is the interest-free loan scheme. Applicants can pay for their e-taxis in easy five-year installments. To make it even easier, the government will contribute towards the equity share and also offer free vehicle registration.

The maximum financing limit is PKR 6.5 million per vehicle. Out of this, applicants must pay 30% equity, while the Government of Punjab (GoPb) will support the rest, depending on the category of ownership.

Who Can Apply?

Fleet Owners

• Must apply for at least 10 e-taxis.
• Must be registered with a Transport Network Company (TNC).
• Eligible for equity support of 30–40% depending on the number of taxis.

Individuals

• Can apply for 1 e-taxi only.
• Must be registered with a Transport Network Company (TNC).
• 70 taxis reserved for men and 30 taxis reserved for women.
• Eligible for 50% equity support (men) or 60% equity support (women).

Financial Terms

• Interest-free loan with repayment over 5 years.
• 30% equity contribution required by the applicant.
• Government support for the remaining equity, depending on the category.
